  »  Acrylic Resin Instructions

Acrylic Resin is water soluble until dry. Clean tools and containers with soap and water while still wet. May require agitation to assist with coalescence when diluting with water. Dilute fully before adding to recipes.

Coverage: 2000 sq ft per gallon when diluted 1:5

To use as a glue:
Use resin at full strength without diluting. Apply to one surface and press together. Allow to dry thoroughly.

To use in Lime Washes and other water-based paints:
Using the measured amount of water for your formula, dilute 1 part resin to 5 parts water to make a 20% solution. Be sure the resin has completely dissolved before adding to your formulation. May also be used over dry lime washes as a final sealer, see instructions below. Can be painted over in future without removal.

To use with plasters, including lime plasters:
Dilute 1 part resin to 5 parts water and use this solution as the water for your plaster mix. Keying Plasters: To make a bond for lime plasters and other types of plaster to key on incompatible surfaces, dilute 1 part resin with 3 parts water. Apply this 1-part-resin-3-parts-water mix with a pump type sprayer, roller, sponge, or brush and proceed to plaster WHILE RESIN IS STILL TACKY. Porous surfaces must be primed with a solution of 1 part resin, 5 parts water and allowed to dry. Use only on structurally sound surfaces. Glossy surfaces must be sanded.

To use as a sealer for porous surfaces concrete, masonry, brick & mortar joints (or any other porous surface):
Dilute 1 part resin to five parts water. Use before painting to save a coat of paint, or use on washes as a final sealer. Results in a non-slip matte finish. Test to make sure surface is porous, and is free of oil, gas & film deposit. Note: One sealing coat only. Do not repeat applications. Not recommended for Interlocking brick, or for areas with standing water.

Cement Paint:
Make long-lasting, attractive paint that's economical, too. This mixture is great for outbuildings, garages, outside walls, and basements. Mix 1 part resin to 5 parts water. Mix dry pigment and cement (white cement will give truest tint) at a ratio of 20% pigment to the weight of cement. Add to the resin/water mixture to the coloured cement until a paint-like consistency is achieved. Apply as you would normal paint, stir constantly during application. Fill surface cracks and irregularities with the heavy mix from the bottom of the pail.

PVA Paint:
For a strong, long lasting paint, dilute 1 part resin to 2 parts water. Add pigment for desired color. If making larger quantities, soak pigment in an equal volume of water before adding to resin paint.

For Strengthening / Hardening Cements and Renders:
Concrete blended with Acrylic Resin can withstand heavy wear and vibration. Just mix 1 part Resin with 10 parts water, and use as the water portion when making your premixed concrete. Then follow concrete manufacturer’s directions. The SHEER STRENGTH of concrete will increase up to 1200%, and the COMPRESSION STRENGTH up to 38%.
