Sofix Lime Primer Instructions

Introduction

Sofix is a nontoxic primer free of solvents and preservatives. Use Sofix to prepare surfaces that are incompatible with lime in preparation for the application of thin lime coatings such as Badisof or Badisof Plus. It is packaged as a dry powder, to which water is added.

Use Sofix as either a base regulator for supports where there may be a variance in absorbency or chemical compatibility, or as an adherence bridge for incompatible surfaces. For more information refer to the Badisof and Badisof Plus instructions.

Preparing the 11 lb package

FOR USE AS AN ADHERENCE BRIDGE:

Use on previous paint, primed dry wall, gypsum plaster, old cement plaster, surfaces of unknown composition or a surface that lacks mechanical key or proper absorbency.

Step 1:
Empty one 11 lb package of Sofix powder into a clean five-gallon bucket. Add 3 to 4 liters (.80 to 1.05 gallons) of clean water and mix to a homogeneous paste using a paint mixing paddle affixed to an electric drill.

Step 2:
Let the mixture rest for 20 minutes.

Step 3:
Add up to 10 liters (2.65 gallons) of additional water (depending on the absorbency of the surface).

Remix before use and during the application.

FOR USE AS A BASE REGULATOR:

Use on Cement Block or other surfaces that have mechanical compatibility (absorbency and key) but may have variance in chemical composition such as between mortar and block. Also use on surfaces that have variance in absorbency such as a surface with plaster patches.

Step 1:
Empty one 11 lb package of Sofix powder into a clean five-gallon bucket Add 3 to 4 liters (.80 to 1.05 gallons) of clean water and mix to a homogeneous paste using a paint mixing paddle affixed to an electric drill.

Step 2:
Let it rest for 20 minutes.

Step 3:
Add enough clean water to make 4.75 gallons of mixture.

Remix before use and during application.

Preparing the 5.5 lb package

FOR USE AS AN ADHERENCE BRIDGE:

Use on previous paint, primed dry wall, gypsum plaster, old cement plaster, surfaces of unknown composition or a surface that lacks mechanical key or proper absorbency.

Step 1:
Empty one 5.5 lb package of Sofix powder into a clean five-gallon bucket. Add 1.5 to 2 liters (.40 to .53 gallons) of clean water and mix to a homogeneous paste using a paint mixing paddle affixed to an electric drill.

Step 2:
Let the mixture rest for 20 minutes.

Step 3:
Add up to 5 liters (1.32 gallons) of additional water (depending on the absorbency of the surface).

Remix before use and during the application.

Important Recommendations

Never apply at temperatures below 41º F, or above 95º F or on an overheated or frozen support.

Designed for interior use as an adherence bridge, and interior or exterior use as a base regulator.

When applying a lime wash other than Badisof or Badisof Plus over Sofix, it must contain an additional binder such as Casein or PVA (acrylic resin).
