• How is the new SafePaint different from your Old Fashioned Milk Paint?
• SafePaint is a newly formulated milk paint designed for use on walls. Our original formula, (Old Fashioned Milk Paint) was created for porous surfaces like wood and masonry. SafePaint is for use on non-porous surfaces such as previously painted walls and for new sheetrock.
• Is SafePaint mixed up the same way?
• Yes, but more easily using high speeds with a drill paint paddle or a portable kitchen beater. Basically, you still just add water, our pigments (in the untinted base) and mix. For your convenience we have also included two pre-tinted colors of Safe Paint in Buttermilk and Snow White. If you choose to tint using our pigments, slake them by soaking in an equal of volume of water to wet all the particles adding to your paint in the preparation process. The amount of pigment used is the same as for the Old Fashioned Milk Paint formula.
• What colors does SafePaint come in?
• We offer SafePaint in two readymade colors of Snow White and Buttermilk. In addition, we offer SafePaint in an untinted base ready for you to use with any of our pigment colors. Ratios will be the same as those recommended for our original Old Fashioned Milk Paint untinted base. Our Ochers and pigment colors can be used alone or mixed to create a full palette of shades.
• What are the SafePaint prices?
• The same as our traditional Old Fashioned Milk Paint.
• Is SafePaint different in appearance than your traditional milk paint?
• Yes, it doesn't have the "old world", uneven, mottled look of our original formula. It's flat, but much more uniform and consistent over a large area.
• Is SafePaint washable?
• It is more water resistant than our original paint, but on surfaces expected to take a lot of abuse you may want to use a sealer over the paint. We have several nontoxic options for sealing your SafePaint and Milk Paint in our Finish Waxs and Topcoats. SafePaint is washable once cured.
• What type of topcoats can be put over SafePaint to make it more washable?
• We carry several options for finish top coats for use over our Safe Paint or Old Fashioned Milk Paint, to make it washable and/or to add special effects. They include our Black Bison Paste Wax in Neutral, our Texturline Acrylic Wax blends in Burnishing, White and Satin, or Clear Coat from the makers of SafePaint.
• Is SafePaint a true milk paint like your Old-Fashioned Milk Paint?
• Yes, it's as real and true as it gets. A true Milk Paint contains milk protein, lime and pigment.
• Does the name SafePaint mean that it is SAFER than your Old-Fashioned Milk Paint?
• Our Old-Fashioned Milk Paint and our SafePaint are both organic and bio-degradeable as well as permanent, durable and nonpolluting. They are both the safest paints available.
