Beer is another ancient medium for use with pigments. Non-toxic and inexpensive, this transparent glaze is great for wood and non-traffic areas such as ceilings. Because it is slow drying, you have time to experiment with it as well. By creating a transparent medium, beer glaze allows the light to reflect from the pigments without interference. Its transparent quality also allows designs underneath to show through, and ale works great with Umbers to create an aging effect.
- 1 quart of Ale
- 1 tblsp of Pigment
This finish is not washable, so furniture should be varnished afterwards to protect your work — our Dammar Varnish recipe is perfect for this.
